Our team split into pairs and went to visit the family of a student of our choice. My partner and I had chosen a pair of siblings; an adorable girl and her younger brother that because of his chubby-ness, I like to call kilo-boy. I was not sure what to expect, going there. I had heard from other teachers of how badly the parents would treat the children. In the time leading up to the visitation, I spent some time talking with God, asking Him to bless the time, to open hearts and opportunities that my partner and I might reflect love from God.
Their home was not luxurious by any standards, but by the standards of their refugee status, it was enough and a blessing from God. Meeting with the parents, all my weak presumptions were broken down. They were such loving parents and so devoted to Christ. They spoke of how yes, sometimes it was difficult to raise children in an environment that does not favor them and that it was easy to become frustrated when the stress of the world prevented them from spending quiet time with God.
We chatted about everything and anything, playing with the children as well. It was such a blessing to be reminded of the beauty of innocence in children. I myself saw many qualities of Jesus in the older sister, such as sacrificial Love and unconditional forgiveness. We ended with a prayer with the family.
Later on in the evening, while we waited for our other team members, my partner and I had a chance to chat the TM in training that worked with us. It was a God given time, where barriers were broken and sharings about thoughts and experiences were authentic and honest. And it was so very unexpected too - we were simply waiting for latecomers, but God used that time to bring unity to us servants of His.
These two events of the day reminded much of how God always exceeds our expectations. He is unexpected, perfect and goes beyond what we could understand. Sometimes, our preconceptions turn out to be very far from the truth and we have to admit we were arrogant and ignorant. There is beauty and holiness in every that is moment lifted up for God and He can use the smallest of situations for His glory.

Hey buddy great hearing about what you guys have been doing. I'll be praying for you guys!
Among all your teammates' writings, yours has been the most encouraging to me - as your ex-fellowship counselor. I am really really thankful to see how God has personally mold you into who you are today (flashbacks to the crazy times in GK years ago, hahaha).
Peace be with you, let's have a good chat later when you're back!
